• Some glazes carry warnings on their product page if high in barium (toxic) or likely to leach toxins (eg copper). These are listed as NOT FOOD SAFE or High Barium.
• All glazes contain crystalline silica. Long-term exposure to silica is a health risk and standard safe studio procedures are essential. These will include mask wearing if exposed to dust – when mixing or sweeping.
• Red glazes contain cadmium and selenium in safe, insoluble ‘encapsulated’ form. These are safe to use, fire and for use on food-contact surfaces. Normal precautions regarding dust apply.
