Flashes of pink and orange swirl inside a glassy green pool to create a finish full of movement and play. To recreate it, you’ll need Abbots Floating Pink, Abbots Rockpool, and Abbots Olivine.

What you’ll need:
A super easy combo with a big return!
- Abbots Floating Pink Brushable Glaze
- Abbots Rockpool Brushable Glaze

Abbots Olivine Brushable Glaze
- Abbots Universal Medium optional, but handy!
- A bisque-fired piece
- A soft brush
- Banding wheel, potter’s wheel, or lazy susan (optional)
- Access to an electric kiln (firing to Cone 6)
Step-by-step
Step 1 ~ Base glaze: Apply 2 coats of Abbots Floating Pink
Apply Coat 1
Your first job is to give your jar of Floating Pink a really good shake.
Once you’ve got the glaze moving nicely, it's time to apply the first coat.
The first coat can sometimes feel a bit patchy and dry to apply, especially if you have a piece of rather absorbent bisque.
If you do find this happening, try adding a few drops of Abbots Universal Medium to your first coat in a small bowl before applying. The second coat can be applied straight from the jar.*
Don’t worry if you don’t have Universal Medium - this will still work beautifully without it.
Allow time for the first coat to dry before applying the next. About 30 seconds should do it.

Apply Coat 2
Apply the second coat of Floating Pink.
Focus on creating nice, even brush strokes for a consistent application.
Rotating your piece on a banding wheel while you glaze can help you keep track of where you’ve already applied glaze. It also allows your hands (and brush) to remain steady while the wheel turns!
Allow the coat to dry.
✨ Step 2 ~ Top glaze: Apply 2 coats of Abbots Rockpool
Apply Coat 1
The next step is to apply two coats of Rockpool, our middle glaze. Rockpool is responsible for creating the deep green in this finish.
Don’t forget to give your jar a really good shake before applying the first coat.
Allow to dry before moving on to the second coat.
Coats may take slightly longer to dry from this point (30 seconds - 1 minute).
Apply Coat 2
Apply the final coat of Rockpool and allow it to dry.
You’re doing really well!
Step 2 ~ Top glaze: Apply 2 coats of Abbots Rockpool
Apply Coat 1
It’s time to apply our third and final glaze, Olivine.
Give your jar a good shake and, when you’re ready, go ahead and apply the first coat.
Let this dry (a heat gun or hairdryer can come in handy here).
Apply Coat 2
Let’s put that brush to work and apply the final coat of Olivine.
Allow your piece to dry before firing.
Step 4 ~ Firing
Check the underside of your piece for any glaze drips. It’s also a good idea to double-check that your piece has a 0.5 - 1cm clearance at the foot to allow for any movement in the kiln.
Fire to Cone 6 in an electric kiln.
