Magnesium Carbonate Light 325#

Magnesium Carbonate Light 325# is a fine powder form of magnesium carbonate (MgCO₃), widely used in ceramics. It is often added to glazes to create matte surfaces due to its refractory properties. Magnesium carbonate encourages crystallization and contributes to the development of silky, opaque finishes when combined with other fluxes. Adding even 1% to a glaze can contribute to improved suspension properties.

It can also be used to create dramatic crawl-effect glazes such as the one on Zoe Peterson’s tumbler below.

Safety Note:

Magnesium carbonate dust, like other fine powders, can be an inhalation hazard. Appropriate personal protective equipment, including dust masks or respirators, should be worn when handling the material to prevent respiratory issues.
