This mid-fire glaze is reliable on its own and when layered with other glazes.
Set density at around 1400g/l for single layer dipping or as low as 1260g/l for layering.
Can easily be converted into a brushable glaze if dispersed in a suitable medium.
This glaze uses modern inclusion pigments.
Inclusion pigments containing cadmium and selenium are commonly used to produce bright red, orange, and yellow colors in ceramics and glass. These pigments are made by incorporating cadmium sulfide (CdS) and selenium (Se) into a stable crystalline host structure, typically zircon. This process helps to immobilize the cadmium and selenium, making the pigments more stable and reducing their solubility, which is key to their safety.
Proper ventilation, dust control measures, and the use of personal protective equipment (e.g., respirators) are important when handling these pigments in their raw form.
This glaze has been tested and is confirmed safe for food-contact surfaces.
